Thoughts and prayers go out to legendary Valparaiso University coach Homer Drew and his wife Janet today as news broke Tuesday night that both are suffering from cancer.

Drew coached at the northern Indiana school for 22-years, retiring this past May. His son Bryce, he of "The Shot", a 3-pointer at the buzzer in the 1998 NCAA Tournament midwest regional, that gave Valpo the upset win over Ole Miss, is taking over the program.

According to the Post-Tribune, the Drew's released a statement saying, "Janet and myself both appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time for our family."

The story came to light when a former player tweeted about a phone call he received from Homer Drew about what was going on. The school later confirmed the information.

Valparaiso said there will be no further details released on the couples illness.
