This is a story OSG Sports 1st reported Friday afternoon and yes, it is strange.
The Arena Football league, about to celebrate their 25th anniversary, ended up beginning the season with replacement players.
The reason: A strike...or at least no labor agreement.
Apparently, the two sides who were negotiating over player pay, passed a couple of labor proposals back and fourth on Friday, the last with an alleged 5:30 pm deadline. Which would have been okay...except the Orlando Predators, hosts of the opening game, waived almost the entire roster...at 5.

If you are surprised to read the Arena League is still around...so were we. They went on hiatus for a couple of years during the recession and when they came back, they came back with a leaner budget. OSG Sources tell us, players were getting roughly $400 per game, they are/were asking for $700, not an unreasonable request...you'd think.
Would you go watch Arena football? Would you go watch replacement players play Arena Football? Some 13,000 people did in Orlando Friday night...we suspect they are more the exception...than the rule.
