According to reports, Beane was on his way home from a golf outing when he crashed, he was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the 12:40pm wreck.

Beane was held in high esteem in Boston circles and had the honor of being the guy calling the games when the Red Sox won the 2007 series, ending an 86-year drought.

While he may not be known to folks outside the Boston area, its never a good thing to report an incident such as this. Most everyone is at least familiar with the Red Sox and they are on national TV pretty much every week. That alone should make at least a portion of the audience somewhat--if not indirectly familiar with the voice.
