Isiah Crowell to UGA farm team Alabama State... Or Not... Okay, He Is... (UPDATED With Teammate/Fan Reaction)

Isaiah Crowell
This is somewhat of a regional story, but none the less, it is interesting.

Now former University of Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell is transferring to Alabama State according to multiple reports.

The reason, as we told you last week, Crowell was arrested at a traffic checkpoint on the UGA campus and a gun with a sawed of serial number was found in his car. That resulted in felony gun charges for the oft troubled sophomore, and for UGA head coach Mark Richt, those charges were the final straw.

Crowell was dismissed, but he has hired a lawyer to fight the charges in Athens. That lawyer, "Mega" high profile Atlanta attorney Steve Sadow.

And that leads us to ask THIS question: How does Crowell, a college student, who by all reports doesn't come from a "Well-to-do" family, afford an attorney such as Sadow to fight charges that while serious to him...are hardly "High-Profile"?

And yes, we are implying what you think we are. It's not a knock against Crowell, but we make a pretty good living...and are quite sure we couldn't afford Mr. Sadow's going rate.

**UPDATE**4:45pm--According to the esteemed Chip Towers of AJC.com who spoke to Mr. Sadow, the attorney says he is "Taking the case 'Pro Bono'" because of what he believed to be issues with the search that resulted in Crowell's arrest.

Crowell is by many accounts a kid lacking in self discipline. We suspect that unless something changes, moving to Alabama State isn't going to change what he is.

And what he IS...is the poster child for why you should not believe that an alleged "5-Star" high school recruit will always be a star at the next level. Some kids don't get it. Some 18-year olds don't make the adjustment to being away from home, being on their own and being around older, bigger, faster and more serious teammates.

UPDATE: The HQ came across this over at loserswithsocks.com...

First, Crowell's teammate, Cornelius Washington, decided to go off on "haters..." on his Facebook page (whatever constitutes that definition...)

“‘all(of you) think you know so much, but in reality you know nothing. You
don’t know what we come from, you don’t know our struggles, all you know
is the number on our jersies. 99% of you don’t give a crap about us
outside of football. When we’re doing well you’re all in our faces, when
things get tough and we need encouragement you’re nowhere to be found.
You’re fake and I despise you for it. We shall band together guys, we’ve
been working hard and we only need each other. NONE of those outsiders
will contribute to our survival as a team or as individuals, you can
guarantee that.#stickclosetoeachother ~corn washington”

Then, a Georgia fan decided to bounce back and go after Washington...

Here's some of the greatest hits...

OK Mr. Corn, I’ll bite, what oppressive circumstance that none of us can
possibly understand are you referencing? Are you suggesting that none of
us come from families that struggled to make ends meet? Maybe none of
us were raised by a single parent? Perhaps some of us didn’t eat grilled
cheese sandwiches, cheap hot dogs (with no bun), ramen noodles, or
fishsticks for dinner AS A TREAT because we came from an era of economic
recession that makes today’s seem tame?

Let me tell you something you shortsighted little moron, poor when I was a kid meant
something entirely different than it does now.. and we had it good
compared to our parents and grandparents who survived on hope, sunshine,
and tap water…

When I was a kid, I didn’t have a video game system, the TV in the LIVING ROOM was 19 inches of black & white goodness and it got 4 channels; two of them without adjusting the rabbit
ears every few minutes, and one of those channels was PBS – so Sesame
Street & Mr. Rogers all freaking day. This TV was shared by 4
people, you dig? Hell, I woke up everyday wondering if Russia was going
to nuke our asses for no apparent reason or if I might spontaneously
explode if I didn’t wear a condom during sex…

At it's best... it's required reading... even if none of the ex-Crowell teammates will listen...

1315 UPDATE: Or not... or just "...not yet..."

According to an interview with the four-letter's Dawgnation site, Crowell's mom, she says that her son has yet to finalize his plans.

"He has not made up his mind," is the quote attributed to her...

The HQ finds it interesting that Alabama State would be the choice, but there are two ideas in play...

The Auburn commonality between ASU AD Stacy Danley and Crowell's high school coach, fellow Auburn player, Antonio "Dell" McGee and, the idea that Montgomery is 90 minutes away from Columbus. Crowell attended Carver-Columbus High School.

PM UPDATE: Okay, he is after all...

Brian Ching caught up with ASU Head Coach Reggie Barlow...

"We got an opportunity to recruit Isaiah, and I imagine a lot of other teams were recruiting him as well," Barlow said. "But his family, they've made a decision that they are going to come to Alabama State University. He has been admitted into the university. He's registered for class and he will be starting class on Monday."

And, there you go...

Barlow went on to talk about how Crowell comes from a good support system and a good family- reinforcing that this is a chance for the tailback to "restore his credibility."

Sure, it is... the HQ is not in a position to hold its breath at present... and does not intend to...
